On March 3 at 6 p.m. the worlds of fashion and photography will unite to help bring food, aid and comfort to the victims of the Haitian earthquake.
The event will be at the main terminal of the Scottsdale airport, featuring an exhibition and silent auction of photographs made by Airpark-based photographer Alan Staats who documented and assisted in the ongoing international relief efforts in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
Scottsdale-based fashion maven Robert Black has donated nine designer couture “little black dresses” from his collection to be modeled and auctioned.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served. All are invited to attend. Bidding on the photographs and dresses will take place during the evening.
The event will benefit the American Samaritan Fellowship and World Stove, whose ongoing efforts will provide food, medicine, shelter and the means to bring the lives of thousands of Haitians back from the brink.
For more information, contact Alan Staats at 602-790-2636 or alan@photostaats.com.
Taste Good Life at Luxury Expo;
City North, Feb. 19-21
Weary of sucking economic gruel and ready for a taste of the good life?
Good news! This weekend you can sip the champagne life at the His & Hers Luxury Experience at City North, Feb. 19-21 (we’ll be tweeting tix, too).
The lush expo shows off cars, boats, pampering, “Man Cave” riches, Payne Mason cigars, champagne, nutrition and life counseling, luxury home items … and on and on. But you don’t just look at them—you EXPERIENCE THEM.
That’s the vision of the woman behind the event, Mandy Christine, an Airparker who loves her condo at Kierland and the area lifestyle.
Meet Mandy
“Take the Man Cave,” she explains. “You walk into the media room with moving seat and flashing lights and get it experience it for yourself. You get to sample exclusive cigars, and relax in our wine garden with fire pits.”
Tell me more, I say.
“In the Health & Wellness, you get to talk to life coaches that normally charge $65 an hour, and pick their brains about life and nutrition—and you get to sample products. At the Luxury Home Experience, you can lie on the beds and get diagnostics of what you should be sleeping on—all the extreme stuff.”
Mandy put this latest “Good Life Expo” together from her home office in 4 months. During the last hectic weeks, she’s called in help from family and friends, but other than that, she’s been a one-woman show.
“I’m crazy for doing this on my own,” she admits. “I can’t think of anything else I want to do.”
Good Life Expo is a work in progress. Mandy doesn’t expect to break even on this show, although the exhibit space is sold out. “I love helping businesses,” she says. ”I’m also donating a portion of the proceeds to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.”
As luck would have it, Mandy’s first solo luxury show—which happened to be at WestWorld—was staged in October 2008, just days after the stock market took a swan dive. Attendance wasn’t nearly what she’d anticipated.
“I thought I had failed miserably, but after the show, I had 21 businesses say they wouldn’t even still be in business if not for the expo,” she recalls. “They said I saved them.”
This year, exhibitors know they have be aggressive, she says, and they’re offering all kinds of coupons and incentives to help consumers. On the flip side, Mandy has noticed consumers are losing their fear of spending but doing more homework about their purchases. “They’re asking all the right questions,” she says.
Thanks to Mandy for donating VIP passes for Airpark News to tweet to our loyal followers!

If you haven’t been to one of the Scottsdale Chamber’s First Friday Breakfast’s before, this is a great one to check out. The theme is marketing trends. I can testify to the fact that social media guru Dave Cooke is never boring and always informative. And I haven’t met Mr. Barnhart, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a business blogging expert listed on any of the guest speaker lists around town, and I’m definitely looking forward to his presentation. Of course, Sir Speedy is always a great resource.
This is also a perfect opportunity to check out Xona’s digs and catering if you haven’t done so yet. Word to the wise: Princess off Scottsdale Road does go through despite the signage, so if you’re coming from the west that’s the shortcut straight to Xona–no need to take the long and wangly way from Hayden past the Fairmont Princess.
See info below. Sign up now, or just show up and pay as you go. It’ll be a good time … and free copies of Airpark News to all attendees! What a deal, what a deal.

“Doughnut Dan” Brinton Opens 8th Valley Krispy Kreme and His Latest Concept Beauregard Food Co. Side by Side
The man that brought back to Arizona the south’s favorite doughnut – Krispy Kreme – is serving up a full menu of southern fare at his new restaurant concept Beauregard Food Co., newly opened on Market Street at D.C. Ranch.
Opening next door to Brinton’s newest Krispy Kreme neighborhood store, Beauregard Food Co. is as the sign reads “…a southern thing.” The menu has a Cajun flare and includes gumbo, and shrimp and crawfish wraps. Guests can also experience southern favorites such as fried pickles and comeback sauce (aka “Cajun ketchup”).
“People will soon find out that ‘Doughnut Dan’ knows more than doughnuts,” said Dan Brinton, franchise partner of Krispy Kreme Arizona and Beauregard Food Co. owner. “The restaurant business is in my blood and I’m just as passionate about my fried pickles as I am my doughnuts.”
Beauregard Food Co., named after Brinton’s great-great grandfather’s dry goods company established in 1898 in Clarksville, Tenn., is a 70-seat family- and wallet-friendly destination. Mud bugs, better known as children, have a variety of meals to choose from and are invited to draw and stamp on the paper-covered white tablecloths.
“This is my neighborhood, so I know first-hand that people want a place they can take their families for good food any night of the week,” said Brinton. “I hope to appeal to those folks as well as Valley residents looking for food that’s as fun as whittling and as comfortable as a rocking chair.”
Beauregard Food Co. is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Daily specials include offerings such as shrimp and grits, red beans and rice, shrimp and crawfish cheesecake, and etouffee. The address is 20825 N. Pima Rd. Suite 100.
The D.C. Ranch Krispy Kreme is open seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and features 15 varieties of doughnuts, including Krispy Kreme’s signature Original Glazed® doughnut. The store offers 25-cent coffee, 99-cent specialty coffee beverages, and Shamrock Farms milk.
For more information regarding Beauregard Food Co. and Krispy Kreme Arizona, call 480.776.1912. Or, become a friend of Doughnut Dan on facebook.
