MUSIC

Work that! With over 70 million combined albums sold worldwide and 12 Grammy wins together, Mary J. Blige (pictured) and JAY-Z will embark on a 25-date North American co-headlining tour, with a stop in Phoenix to perform at US Airways Center on Tuesday, April 15. The “Mary J. Blige & JAY-Z:  Heart of the City” tour is an historic pairing of two artists of this stature. For more information or tickets, visit www.livenation.com.

In March 2008, singer-songwriter Jackson Browne (pictured) released “Jackson Browne – Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2”, the second in a series of live albums recorded at recent solo concerts in the US, the UK, and Australia. In support of the album release, Browne, whose major hits include “Doctor My Eyes” and “Running on Empty,” makes a stop in Mesa to perform at Ikeda Theater on Monday, April 14. The show will begin at 7:30 pm. For more information or tickets, visit www.livenation.com.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. enjoy the Tuesday Morning Music & Coffee Concert at ASU Kerr Cultural Center in Scottsdale. THEATER

Take a walk on the dark side with Sweeney Todd beginning on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the ASU Gammage Theater in Tempe. Described by The Wall Street Journal as “an event theatergoers will be talking about for years,” the musical tells the tale of demon barber Sweeney Todd who wages revenge on London’s upper crust. Directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, this dazzling reinvention of a magnificent musical thriller is set to stun theatergoers as never before.

COMEDY

Laugh out loud as they take the stage at Dodge Theatre on Saturday, April 5. The show will begin at 8 p.m. For more information or tickets, visit www.livenation.com.

VISITORS & SNOWBIRDS

‘Sweeney Todd’ Star Judy Kaye

Name: Judy Kaye

Occupation: Actor

Year-Round Residence: Guttenberg, NJ and Accord, NY

In your opinion, why does most of America know you? Do they? Well, the theater junkies might know me. (Editor’s Note: Kaye is being modest; she’s appeared on hits like NBC’s “Law & Order” and won a 1988 Tony Award for her work in “The Phantom of the Opera”)

Why do you typically visit Scottsdale? To see family and friends and play some golf.

Where do you stay when you’re here? With my parents in Phoenix. I was born there.

What is your favorite destination here? I love Silverleaf Country Club! My nephew, Jonathan Kaye, is a member there and takes my husband and me out there to play when he’s not playing a PGA event. It’s gorgeous! And the food there is wonderful.

What comes to mind when you think of visits to Scottsdale? I’ve been going to Scottsdale since I was very small and it was truly the West’s Most Western Town. Eating at Lulu Bell’s. Large expanses of pasture land. Strolling 5th Ave. It’s all grown up now, but still so beautiful.

Will you be back again soon? Oh, yes! And often.
